Professional dart tournaments and competitions use steel tip darts because of their capacity for precision and the ability to stick better on the target board. These darts naturally have steel tips and can fly with very little deviation from your target path. Darts with steel tips need to be cared for frequently to keep the sharpness and strength of the throw.

Throwing darts seem pretty simple when played by professional dart players. However when you try it, you may find it hard to make a precise throw and end up sticking your dart on the wall instead of on the dart board itself. The game needs precision, power, proper stance, and lots of practice to be able to make an accurate throw.

During a steel tip darts tournament, you need to maintain proper stance. Your feet must be shoulder length apart and your shoulders must be aligned with your feet. Left-handed and right-handed throwers may keep different stances; nevertheless the greater part of your weight rests on your front foot. The back foot is used for balancing.

Throwing darts

Since steel tip darts allow precision, your only concern would be to make a precise throw. Darts, whatever the tips are, must follow a parabolic curve much like throwing a stone. Keep your shoulders and feet in a fixed position and only change the angle of your stance to adjust to a better position. Rules when playing steel tip darts

Like other games, dart games are regulated by major dart organizations. However, steep tip dart game is ruled by the DRA or the Darts Regulation Authority.

Target board and darts

According to the DRA, the target board must be 5 feet and 8 inches from the floor. All players must position themselves inside the toe line, which is 7 feet and 9 ¼ inches from the board's face. All steel tip darts should weigh not more than 50 grams and can have a fixed or movable point. Most steep tip darts weigh 18 to 26 grams. Darts cannot be more than 12 inches long.

Bounce out rule - any dart that bounces off the board because it hit the wire will not be counted. The same goes for darts falling off the board. Players cannot throw again if their darts bounce or fall from the board.
All players should stay inside the toe line but can lean over as far as they can without crossing the toe or throw line.

The wire determines the score and not the segment's color.

The dart point must always be thrown first.

When a player has consumed his or her 'go out', your score goes back to the point when you started the throw.

All scores are recorded before removing the darts from the target board.

In steep tip darts tournament, any player who uses offensive or foul language, or demonstrates offensive gestures will be subjected to disciplinary proceedings by the DRA.
